Words from our Founder

The Language for All Journey & Mission

Language for All started in 2023 with something I noticed at home. My grandmother speaks only Mandarin, and our domestic helper only English — they had to rely on gestures just to communicate. It made me realize how common this challenge is for migrant domestic workers in Hong Kong, and how few opportunities exist to learn local languages in a structured way.

That experience inspired Language for All, an initiative that helps migrant domestic workers learn Cantonese and Mandarin using systems like Jyutping and Pinyin. With the support of partners such as TCKLC and EmpowerU, we’ve seen our students gain confidence and begin expressing themselves in Cantonese — a small but meaningful step toward stronger understanding and connection.

Tina Xu

Co-President

Hello, my name is Tina, and I am an international school student in Hong Kong. I was raised in Beijing and moved to Hong Kong three years ago, where I experienced the same challenges of adapting to Cantonese culture and language. Although I am not yet proficient in idioms or advanced conversations, I deeply understand the difficulties of learning a new language and am able to explain concepts clearly. I am really passionate about empowering more people to speak Cantonese with confidence and to enjoy Hong Kong!!

Rain or shine, our team shows up — and we mean that literally. Our educators are committed to every scheduled session, including weekends and holidays, because we know that consistency is the foundation of meaningful learning.

We believe that great teaching goes beyond delivering content. Our educators actively foster dialogue, spark curiosity, and ensure that every student walks away with a thorough and confident understanding of the material.
